Lack of Laptop Means Lack of Updates

I've been meaning to post here more, but with the never ending list of things to do as the end of the quarter looms near, I've become incredibly busy. Each of my classes have made their own demands on my schedule and it's kind of depressing as to what that means for my websites, but I plan on posting what I've been working on during the time gap when I have, well, time.

One of the biggest reasons I have been unable to post is because, about two weeks ago, the freshly purchased strawberry kiwi Sobe water on my desk decided that it really liked my laptop keyboard and flew all over it when I wasn't looking. (So in other words, I was a klutz and spilled liquid all over my laptop.) For the five minutes I was frantically wiping it down, it was fine, and then the screen turned white. I found it surprising because the liquid flew on top of the keyboard as well as under it, so it effectively penetrated as many orifices in my laptop as it possibly could. Everything is internal with a laptop, so I expected the worst.

After the white screen, it turned off for a large amount of time, and wouldn't turn on. My boyfriend, Drew, ran out to find someone with a grounder while I called my mom, the family computer expert. She said it was probably fried because of the white screen and went off to find the insurance papers in my room at home. Drew came back with a toolbox while mom read off insurance information to me. While I sit there freaking out about my poor baby, Drew pokes me in the shoulder and points to my laptop, which is on and demanding my password. "How did you do that?" "I turned it on."

In spite of an aerial attack from one Sobe, my keyboard, sound, and hard drive were okay. Of course, the internet wouldn't work and the integrated mouse also refused to register, but other than that the laptop was surprisingly fine. What do you know?

I still ended up taking my laptop to Best Buy for a repair after backing up some files, but I'm still amazed at its survival of such a large scale assault. I'm very thankful for the insurance coverage, too.

So, you can imagine, with all the end of the year work in addition to my busted laptop, what I have been going through. It hasn't been so bad because Drew lets me borrow his and there are thankfully a lot of labs with the software I need to do my work on campus.

Ultimately there are two things you can take away from this: 1) HP laptops are beasts, and 2) don't trust strawberry kiwi Sobe.
